Topaz Tendon Procedure Q & A

What is the TOPAZ™ tendon procedure?

The Topaz tendon procedure is a minimally invasive procedure that uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to break up painful, inflammation-causing scar tissue at the bottoms of your feet and other tendons.

This procedure can treat a variety of painful chronic conditions, including:

  • Plantar fasciitis (heel pain)
  • Achilles tendonitis

The TOPAZ™ tendon procedure can also be used to relieve other types of tendon-related inflammation in the foot, helping reduce pain and improve mobility.

How does the Topaz tendon procedure work?

The Topaz tendon procedure makes use of a device called the TOPAZ™ MicroDebrider COBLATION™ Wand, which emits RF energy.

Before starting your procedure, your Eastside Podiatry PLLC team numbs the area they are going to work on with a local anesthetic. Then, they draw a grid pattern on the bottom of your foot, carefully marking spots they plan to treat.

After numbing the area, your podiatry team uses the TOPAZ™ device to carefully target the inflamed tissue beneath the skin. The device delivers quick bursts of energy that dissolve scar tissue in just seconds, without large incisions or stitches.

There, they activate the device’s RF feature, so that it can dissolve this scar tissue. All in all, it takes about half a second to reach and dissolve your scar tissue at each marked spot.

What happens after my Topaz tendon procedure?

Once your team has completed the Topaz tendon procedure, they bandage up your foot, and depending on your condition, they either splint or cast your foot to allow you to bear weight on it immediately.

If the practice places your foot in a splint or cast, you can expect to wear it for two to four weeks. As your tissue heals, it replaces the old inflamed scar tissue with healthy tissue that decreases your pain and allows for greater mobility.

Is the Topaz tendon procedure right for me?

Anyone with chronic tendon inflammation can consider the Topaz tendon procedure at Eastside Podiatry PLLC.

However, The Topaz tendon procedure is an especially appealing option if you’ve tried more conservative treatments in the past, such as anti-inflammatory medications, stretching, massage, physical therapy, or insoles, and you still have persistent pain.

Chronic foot pain doesn’t have to control your life. With the right care, you can get back to walking, working, and living without constant discomfort. Take the first step toward relief, schedule your consultation with Eastside Podiatry today.

Faq...

It’s commonly used for conditions like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, and other chronic tendon issues that haven’t responded to conservative treatments.

Most patients report minimal discomfort. It’s typically done under local anesthesia, and the punctures are so small that stitches are often not needed.

The procedure usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis—meaning you can go home the same day.

The Topaz procedure is considered very safe, with a low risk of complications. As with any procedure, there’s a small risk of infection or delayed healing, but these are rare.
